Organic Manure is the source of soil nutrients

Maize is an exhaustive cereal crop. Ensuring balanced quantity of nutrients in a given soil for good plant growth is the greatest challenge of the day as yield
potentials vary among soils. The adequate quantities of manure need to be addressed for the soils in a proper way as to facilitate the nutrient needs of the crop and as well for maintenance of soil health. The organic sources will improve the nutrient use efficiency of added chemical fertilizers by reducing nutrient losses and enhancing nutrient availability to plant.Maize is one of the important crops among cereals and it occupies third position in production next to wheat and rice in the world.

Chemical fertilizer cannot be avoided completely since they are the potential sources of high amount of nutrients in easily available forms. Most of the crops respond quickly to chemical fertilizers and give higher yield and maize is more responsive. But continuous application of chemical fertilizers alone is not desirable as it has been reported to deteriorate soil health. In recent years, the potential of vermicompost & City compost to supply nutrients & support beneficial microbes is being recognized widely both in field & horticultural crops.

  1. Yes organic compost do all that, but it could be more sustainable if it is use whit basalt rock dust.

  2. I total agree with you, I have been working in tropics and Sub-tropics for Nearly 40 years and have seen things change. The use of N is one of them that makes the point nicely. In the past we used urea other inorganic. But found ph rising due to nitrification of the urea, after this tried other inorganic N preparations found that they did not work as lost to denitrification and leaching. Only in last 20to30years have some of us found that the only way to get and keep N in the soil is by using organics. Still have a longways to go to convince more teachers and agrics that the soils benefit in all ways.
